In the Tale Erasmus+ project, adult education organisations engage with learners, communities, grassroots initiatives such as social movements and green activists to provide new insights on transformative learning. In this three-part webinar series, we will showcase innovative practices, expert insights, and foster discussions on how different stakeholders can work together for a more sustainable future.

Webinar 2: Community-Led Initiatives and the Green Transition

Explore the inspiring work of grassroots initiatives actively contributing to the green transition. We’ll hear from representatives of these initiatives, learning how they involve citizens in their activities and what are their successes and challenges. We will discuss the informal learning experiences the grassroots initiatives are facilitating, and what adult education organisations could learn from them.

Chris Evans
Chris Evans lives at Applewood Permaculture Centre in the UK with his family. He has taught permaculture in the UK, Europe, Nepal, India, U.S.A. and Mexico. He is also a senior-level tutor for apprentices working towards their diploma in applied permaculture design with the Permaculture Association Britain. He has lived and worked in Nepal since 1985, starting his career as a VSO volunteer in a community forestry programme in Nepal after graduating in Forestry in the UK. Starting with a local friend, he founded a demonstration and training centre that grew organically into the Jajarkot Permaculture Programme (JPP) and is now the 3rd generation progeny of the JPP, the Himalayan Permaculture Centre (HPC).
Agnieszka Borek
Agnieszka Borek is a certified trainer who supports organizations in long-term development processes. She is the president of the NGO Trainers' Association (sTOP) a non-governmental organization uniting over 230 trainers and educators working for social change in Poland. Agnieszka was the co-creator and leader of the Eco-Active for Planet project focused on strengthening green competencies. She is an expert in the SMALEI project which aims to improve the sustainability of adult learning and education (ALE) providers and organizations and to increase their capacity to contribute to forward-looking societal developments.
Grigoris Protsonis
Grigoris Protsonis lives in Greece at the city of Patras and works as a mathematician in a high school. He is a member of the ASTO organisation and works as a volunteer in in environmental projects (natural farming, school gardens and city gardens). He is interested Permaculture (completed a PDC course) and tries to apply methods of natural farming and permaculture in his own garden.
Aleksandra Kozyra
Aleksandra Kozyra is Head of Capacity Building at the European Association for the Education of Adults in Brussels, Belgium. In addition to coordinating EAEA training programmes and conferences, she is responsible for the podcast Beyond Learning, in which she meets with learners and educators to ask how learning has shaped their lives and communities. Aleksandra is a language teacher (University of Warsaw, 2012) and literacy trainer (Lire et Ecrire Belgium, 2023).
Jonne Nurmela
Jonne Nurmela creatively repairs, build and reuses pretty much everything. They are interested of upcycling and repairing the old. Inspecting the world drowning into stuff, skips and different alternatives for our current way of living engage their attention.
They are a project coordinator of a Finnish environmental NGO, Dodo Ry. They are coordinating an environmental and social justice activism themed 2-year project called Towards action.
Mara Angelidou
Mara Angelidou is the Co-Founder & Director of ‘incommon’ a non-profit organisation which works on circular economy through community activation, in order to tackle climate crisis both on environmental and on social level. As an Architect Engineer with MSc in "Environment and Development", she is a specialist in the management of environmental, community and humanitarian projects aimed at sustainable development in cities which involve the proper management of waste, the circular economy, social crises in urban centres, social innovation, active citizenship and participative design. She has participated as a volunteer or researcher and worked on projects in Greece, Portugal, England, Kenya and Indonesia
Laura Kaestele
Laura Kaestele is a network weaver, designer, facilitator, project coordinator, and grower working with integrative design, ecological regeneration, community and network development, permaculture, and holistic living with ~14 years of practical experience in the eco-social field. Together with colleagues from ECOLISE she works to cultivate a thriving impact network with 50 member organisations of community-led initiatives for climate change and sustainability in Europe. Laura holds an MSc in Regenerative Development and a BSc in Integrative Ecosocial Design from Gaia University International, along with Permaculture and Ecovillage Design certificates as well as participatory leadership, facilitation, coaching, and sustainability education training.
Ana Margarida Esteves
Ana Margarida Esteves is an Integrated at the Center for International Studies of ISCTE - University Institute of Lisbon, and Guest Assistant Professor of the Department of Political Economy of the same institution. She has a Ph.D. in Sociology from Brown University (Providence, RI, USA). Her research and teaching approaches the climate crisis, increasing financial, sanitary and food system instability, and widening economic and political polarization as interconnected symptoms of a “polycrisis. Esteves is currently the Principal Investigator of EuroREGEN - Transnational networks for regenerative development in Europe: A comparative perspective on grassroots mobilisation and policy advocacy, funded by the Portuguese Government.
Simone Schirru
Simone is responsible for social and economic policies at the European Network of Reuse, Repair, and Recycling Social Enterprises (RREUSE). He works on policy initiatives such as the current European Year of Skills, the EU Social Economy Action Plan, and on issues such as public procurement and state aid.
Davide Muraro
Davide works at the European Association for the Education of Adults (EAEA) as Policy and Project Coordinator, developing advocacy activities and supporting the implementation of policy-oriented projects and initiatives. Passionate about education and social justice, he previously worked in policy and advocacy roles for European NGOs in the field of democracy, human rights and active citizenship. He studied European Law at Maastricht University, European Affairs at Sciences Po Paris and Language Teaching at the University for Foreigners of Perugia, focusing on adult and community learning.
The Tale project responds to the urgent need to transform into a more climate-friendly and sustainable society. Tale project explores solutions to this challenge by using transformative learning approaches.
The project is co-funded by the Erasmus+ programme.
