Nova – Workshops in Educational and Social Sciences for Young People

Implementation time: 1.1.2026-31.12.2026

Project information

In this project, elementary school students are introduced to research in educational and social sciences, as well as to the criteria and production of scientific knowledge in these fields.

The workshops offered to 7th – 9th grade students present the basics of educational and social science research in an accessible way. Students gain a broader understanding of how scientific research is conducted. This enhances their ability to evaluate knowledge produced in different ways and to form well-reasoned views in public debate. Their understanding of the societal significance of science also increases.

Workshops can be ordered to take place at school premises across Finland.

Project objectives

• To deliver workshops at schools
• To increase students’ science capital and their knowledge of educational and social sciences
• To enable students to meet researchers and become familiar with scientific work through authentic university connections, thereby increasing their understanding of research as a profession
• To strengthen students’ ability to evaluate information and processes of knowledge formation
